Partner Provisional and Migrant Visa Subclass 309/100 is for applicants who are a spouse or a de-facto partner of either an Australian citizen, a PR holder, or an eligible NZealand citizen. Out of the two, the subtype 309 is a temporary visa while the subtype 100 is a permanent one. In the chronological order, 309 is granted first followed by 100 subclass. 309 allows the visa holder to stay in Australia for a period of 2 years during which he/she can apply for subclass 100 (migrant). Candidates must be residing outside Australia at the time of applying. That’s why it’s called an offshore visa.
Partner Visa Subclass 820 and 801 allow the spouses or de facto partners of Australian citizens, Permanent residents, or eligible NZ citizens to live in Australia. The temporary 820 visa is granted first that allows the applicant to live in Australia for two years, during which they can apply for the permanent 801 visa. Benefits of 801 visa is that it allows candidates to apply for Australian citizenship. This visa subclass is classified as an onshore visa.
The Contributory Parent Visa Subclass 143 allows parents of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, or an eligible NZ citizen to live permanently in Australia. The applicants will however need to apply for subclass 173 Contributory Parent Visa prior to applying for 143 visas. 173 visa is a temporary visa which allows the parents of an Australian citizen, a
permanent resident, or a NZ citizen to live in Australia for 2 years. During these two years the parents can apply for 143 visas.
The Contributory Aged Parent Visa Subclasses 884 and 864 allow aged parents of Australian citizens, Permanent residents, and eligible NZ citizens to live in Australia. While 884 is a temporary two-year visa, 864 is a permanent visa that can be applied for within 884’s two-year window.
Child visa subclass 101 is for child/children living outside Australia to come to Australia and live with their parents for an indefinite period. The parent/parents/de facto partner of the parent who can sponsor the child/children must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or an eligible NZ citizen. Child must be under 18 years of age, a full time student between 18-25 years of age, or 18+ but unable to work due to a disability and is dependent on sponsoring parent.
802 subclass visa is applied if the child is in Australia hence it’s called onshore visa. Both 802 and 101 grant permanent residency to visa holders.
